Skip to main content. Log In Sign Up. Antoon Van den Braembussche. Antoon Van den Braembussche born in Eeklo Belgium. Antoon Van den Braembussche has been working full time at the Erasmus University of Rotterdamfirst as a lecturer and subsequently as an associate professor.
First he mainly taught philosophy of history, but in the late eighties he gradually specialized zrt philosophy of art as well.
In the academic year he was head of the theory department at the Jan van Eyck Academy Maastricht. Since the end of he teaches almost full time aesthetics at the Erasmus University and also, on a part time basis, art criticism at the Free University of Brussels.
He is also a distinguished poet and published four booklets with poetry in Dutch.
Vita activa versus vita comtemplativa, Budel, Next to that he published about one thinkiny articles, which appeared in many Dutch and international journals History and Theory, Cultural Dynamics and so oninternational proceedings or anthologies.
A German translation already appeared.
An English and French translation are planned for the near future. At the present moment he prepares a book in English, titled The Silenced Pastwhich embodies the first systematic inquiry available into the nature of historical taboos and historical traumas. This book is not only about collective memory a brawmbussche but also about the artistic representation of traumatic experiences, such as the Holocaust.
This book really is a synthesis of the main interests of the author, namely philosophy of history and aesthetics. He writes not only about painting, but also about film, literature, dance, video clips and new media in general.
